The March 29th 2008- National Park Service Cleanup

Third Annual Attack on Alien Invaders
in the Chattahoochee River
National Recreation Area

Scouts and Scouters:

This is our kickoff notice for our third annual attack on the alien invaders in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, scheduled for March 29, 2008, at the Powers Island locations where we’ve assembled in the previous two years. We continue to work to eradicate the Chinese Privet plants growing along the river and crowding out the native plants and wildflowers. We will assemble in the parking lot on Powers Island at 08:00 for registration and to receive instructions. At 09:00 we’ll begin our first advance on the invaders. (See the attached flier.)

Last year we had 250 Scouts and Scouters participating. We need to double that effort this year. It’s hard work, but desperately need. Already there are reports of wildflowers returning to those areas were the Scouts eradicated the invaders. A two acre tract of land in that area is being studied by natural resource managers and researchers because of the outstanding work done by the Scouts. The National Park is also using this area to focus on what can be done to help control and eradicate these exotic species. So, have your efforts been effective in our quest? Yes! Yes! Yes!

We have much yet to do. We need you, Scouts. We need to stop the invasion. We need to eradicate the invaders. We need YOU, Scouts!

Please join us on March 29, 2008, at Powers Island for the Third Annual Attach on these Alien Invaders.
